DOES OZONE KILL CORONAVIRUS?

During the SARS epidemic of 2003, ozone sterilization was successfully used to purify environments infected with the deadly Coronavirus, SARS-CoV-1, the virus which causes the SARS disease. (According to the US National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3312702/)

DOES OZONE KILL COVID-19?

While no cleaning products can claim to kill the particular strain of COVID-19 involved in the current pandemic due to the fact that it is a new virus, our products meet the EPA’s standard as likely effective against the virus, based on previous Coronavirus strains.

WHAT IS OZONE?

Ozone is an enriched pure oxygen containing three oxygen atoms instead of two.  It is a strong, purification, and oxidizing agent that reacts with organics to oxidize unpleasant odors and kill germs.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY OXIDATION?

Oxidation means a substance undergoes a chemical change resulting in a different substance.  Odors and pollutants are oxidized to harmless, odorless carbon dioxide, and the ozone reverts back to pure oxygen.  Fire and chlorine are examples of oxidants.

WHY DOES OZONE KILL ODORS, GERMS, AND POLLUTANTS?

The third atom of O3 is loosely attached and easily separated from the ozone molecule to combine with other substances.  Thereby oxidizing the air polluting substances.

WHAT DOES OZONE SMELL LIKE?

Ozone’s characteristic odor can be smelled immediately after a lightning storm or near photocopiers and electric motors, all which generate ozone.

HOW IS OZONE FORMED IN NATURE?

Trees emit hydrocarbons, by-products of photosynthesis; together with sunlight, they produce ozone.  The electrical discharge of lightning can also produce ozone.  That is why the air always smells so fresh after a thunderstorm or in a forest.

WHAT ABOUT THE OZONE LAYER… ISN’T THAT BAD?

No.  More ozone is good!  The ozone layer is a critical filter of the sun’s harmful UV rays which protects the earth (and us) from scorching.  What is bad is the hole in the ozone layer caused by gases formerly found in aerosol spray cans and refrigerants.

IS OZONE SMOG?

No.  Ozone is NOT smog.  Ozone is simply O3, three oxygen atoms linked together instead of two oxygen atoms, O2, which is what we need to breathe.  Although ozone is sometimes mistakenly referred to as smog, smog is actually a combination of CO2, CO, and SO2 that react with UV rays from the sun to form NOX (nitric oxides).

IS IT LIKE USING A HEPA AIR FILTER?

No.  Ozone is far superior to air filters for odor gases.  Air filters can only filter solid particles and little or no effect on gasses, vapors, or surfaces.  Filters can actually act as a breeding ground for mold, bacteria, and fungus whereas ozone destroys them.

IS IT LIKE USING AN IONIZER?

No.  Ionizers have NO ability to kill bacteria or mold spores and only affect what is pull through the ionizer.  Ozone gas saturates the air to fill a room, treating everything it touches.

CAN OZONE REDUCE “SICK BUILDING SYNDROME”?

Yes.  The “sick building syndrome” occurs in tightly sealed buildings with too little ventilation.  Odors, bacteria, molds, mildew, chemicals, smoke, carbon monoxide, and dust build up can create health hazards.  Ozone can destroy the airborne pollutants that create the health hazards and odors.

OZONE IS EPA APPROVED

  • Exempt from any reporting.

  • The most powerful, broad-spectrum microbiological control agent.

OZONE IS FDA APPROVED

  • As an antimicrobial agent in 2001 for direct food contact.

  • Extends shelf life of food.

OZONE REQUIRES NO CHEMICALS

  • Chemical-free, producing no toxic by-products and no residuals.

  • Kills bacteria 3100 times faster than chlorine.

  • Safer than conventional chemicals.

  • Extremely effective as a disinfectant even at low concentrations.

  • Replaces the use of hot water and conventional sanitizer.

OZONE IS GENERATED ON SITE

  • Eliminates transport/storing/handling of hazardous chemicals.

  • Inexpensive to produce and has an unlimited supply.

  • Reverts back to oxygen in minutes.

OZONE IS SAFE WHEN USED PROPERLY

  • It is always safe at low levels.

  • At high levels, it is safe once the ozone reverts back to oxygen, which takes about an hour or two.

  • No illness has ever claimed to have resulted from ozone exposure.
